I only have 100 words but to keep it short, I am moving all 70 plus domains and canceling my server with them. I went delinquent because of a stolen card and I forgot to update the card on the account. They sent me to collections over $16. I only found out because a client got locked out of their domain. I paid immediately and spent tons of time with them and collections. They charged my card to another persons debt and a 5 days later my accounts are still locked. I finally got a manager today helping me but by the time I sorted out the mess with collection, they were closed in NYC and neither the collection agency or 1&1 had told me they were leaving for the day. No one cared our tried very hard to help even though I explained the situation and that a client was supposed to go live with their site. Dissappointing, frustrating, and an unforgettable lesson in exactly what customer service should NEVER be.

Sounds like 1&1 is getting some bad vibes from what I have read above … but I have been hosting my restaurants’ website with them for 4 years at a next to nothing cost and with no probs so far. I was able to get a human on the line within 2 mins when I called …. but really for me … what makes it work for me is that my staff can update the site using their basic (i stress basic) online editor from any browser without help from me. If I don’t have to hear questions from my staff (not computer literate …. bartenders / servers) then I have give A+. But if looking for host to serve complex flash site my review need not apply.

We have a number of dedicated servers with 1&1 on both Linux and Windows platforms and I can only say that they are fast and so far 100% reliable with the same uptime.Having read the reviews here about some people loosing money then if you are sitting on a shared platform then really you must ask yourself Is it worth the risk of sharing when you can have your own server – have some tch guys on tap should they be needed and then just go and make some money….. We have used 3 other ISP’s for shared platforms in the past and we are defo better on our own.

I have used them for 2yrs now and they are OK.Tech support is another story, as far as keeping the servers up and running, I have to say damn good.But anything a little off the path and the support is clueless.ex. they have a point and click installation for joomla etc. You can’t use it, they make all folders and files unwritable. When contacting tech support, they tell me they are supposed to be and connot be changed 🙂 I mean like whats the point 🙂 I also use northpal and man you do what you want :)))

I’ve hosted my 4 web sites with 1and1 for close to 2 years and am thinking of canceling now. Overall, their pricing is the best. However, their technical support is one of the worst. I’ve had a lot of technical problems with them (usually FTP acting up) and if I’m lucky, they fix it on the fly. As of this writing, I cannot upload any files to my site because my FTP session cannot retrieve directory listing once I’m logged on. Their tech support guy told me to contact my ISP instead!!!! (Even though I told him I’m already logged on to their server!). I asked to speak to someone else or his supervisor and he told me I just had to call back. It’s amazing how knowledgeable their tech support is!

I moved a couple of sites to 1&1 a year ago. They are CGI intensive and were performing very poorly at another large hosting company. Performance at 1&1 has been fantastic. I had to make some changes to the site’s coding because 1&1 does a few obscure things differently than the old hosting company. This required several calls to tech support to get the details nailed down. They answered the phone promptly and quickly got the information I needed. They were not brilliant, but definitely above average. I’m happy with their service. They also have many pages of online help. Online help is a bit tough to navigate so I usually use their search box and then read through the list of hits. This could be better, but when you get to the right page you will find good, detailed information.I’m puzzled by the many carping reviews. I know what bad support looks like and 1&1 is not like that. Perhaps the people doing the complaining need to think about how they contributed to the problem.

I have worked on many web hosting servers: bluehost, godaddy, doteasy, etc. Nothing compares 1&1 to any of these companies, especially for designing/developing websites; 1&1 clearly surpasses the others in storage, bandwidth, uptime, mysql privilege’s/php memory, and most importantly support. You can actually phone 1&1 and speak to another human (and they know what they are talking about!!) 1&1 is fast and reliable, hands down.
