Un domaine ancien inspire confiance. La date de mise à jour révèle un changement récent (DNS, propriétaire). L’expiration est la seule qui vous coûte : après, 30 jours de rédemption payante, puis 5 jours, puis le nom est libre.
clientTransferProhibited empêche un transfert sans votre code ; clientHold signifie que le domaine est suspendu (impayé, litige) ; pendingDelete, qu’il va disparaître. Si vous voyez « Hold » sur le vôtre, appelez votre registrar.

À savoir chez quel registrar est un domaine, depuis quand, jusqu’à quand, avec quels serveurs DNS, et — pour une société — qui le détient. Indispensable avant un transfert, un rachat, ou pour vérifier qu’un prestataire a bien enregistré votre domaine à votre nom.
Puis‑je connaître le propriétaire d’un domaine ?
S’il s’agit d’une entreprise, oui : nom et adresse sont publics. S’il s’agit d’un particulier, non (RGPD) ; le registrar relaie votre message. Pour un litige, l’AFNIC ou une procédure UDRP peuvent lever l’anonymat.
Le WHOIS dit‑il qui héberge le site ?
Non : il parle du nom de domaine, pas du serveur. Les serveurs DNS donnent un indice, mais pour l’hébergeur, utilisez « Qui héberge ce site ? » qui analyse l’adresse IP.
Comment récupérer un domaine expiré ?
Pendant la rédemption (30 jours), seul l’ancien titulaire peut le récupérer, avec frais. Ensuite, quelques jours de « pending delete », puis il redevient libre — souvent capté à la seconde par des services de « drop catching ». Si vous le voulez, mettez une alerte.
Mes recherches WHOIS sont‑elles enregistrées ?
